I just recently started up boxing and was just wondering if anyone can tell me how their boxing gym operates. At my gym there is a ring, a lot of speedballs, fair few bags and floor to ceiling balls. There is one trainer who usually comes around and gives you pointers but other than that you are mostly left to do as you please. Is this the case with everyone elses boxing gym?

  1. Both of the answers that I read are pretty much the same thing that I would recommend.  Don't waste your time waiting for somebody to approach you.. Especially if you have goals in the sport of boxing to achieve.. Most boxing gyms have experienced trainers who are available and willing to train you, if you're serious..It's usually a long road to the top, in the sport of boxing.. So the more people see and know about you, the better chances you have  of getting what and who you need in this sport.. You know this is no sport for the light-hearted.. You gotta be aggressive and make things happen!

  2. Ask for pointers and then do them, try hard and don't get cocky. If you get noticed by the trainer he will seek you out.

  3. my gym has a ring,1 speed bag,3 punching bags, 1 uppercut bag, and a double end bag(ceiling to floor ball). our gym is one of the smallest square footage gyms in Kansas City but we won the team trophy this year in Golden Gloves Regionals. We have 3 coaches in the gym and you are pretty much on your own unless you ask for help or pointers. If you are looking to get fights the best thing to do is to ask for help and ask for fights and spar every chance you get. Soak in as much knowledge as you can from the coaches and the other fighters. dont be afraid to ask questions and ask for help.

  4. the trainer is there to teach you. I suggest you start speaking to him and asking him for advice. Don't be a silent dummy, ask for help if you need it. After all that's why you pay to go to this gym.
