Your favorite kick.?

a question to my fellow martial artists.

what's your favorite kick technique and why.

I'm prone to prefer 2 techniques myself

the classic side kick that's called martello (the hammer) in Capoeira. straight good impact with the shin and you can develop good swing with this one.

or the one called bensao (the blessing) a good frontal stomp with the sole of the foot to stomach or chest. very rudimentary technique that's still capable of hurtling an opponent a few feet back if done right.

so what's your favorite kick and why.

  1. Spinning back kick and Hook kick

  2. Well I do Tae Kwon Do, so we learn quite a few kicks. My favorite two would have to be:

Roundhouse kick (with the instep) -- since it's the most easy and comfortable to throw. It's also the kick that I'm able to get the highest, and it's powerful.

Spinning back kick -- I love the spinning back kick, and it has a couple of different variations which I like. You can do the spin and hit with the heel (toes pointing down) or hit with the flat of your foot with your foot more in a side kick position. I just think it's a cool kick and if done correctly, it's helpful to get out of sticky situations when sparring.

  3. The infamous and deadly Toe Kick!

I won't even say what a well placed toe kick could do because everyone would want to learn them.

    Don't get caught out there!

Ahh... Pugpaws beat me to it! That's because he knows! Oh yeah!

  4. My favorite is either inside or outside crescent. These are good for dropping guards and knocking weapons out of hands. Their my favorite in point sparing as well. In TKD the kick comes from the knee so you don't telegraph the kick inside or outside or front kick. Turn the opposite heel and it becomes a side kick. At my age I aim for your knees with round kicks and side kicks except in point sparring.

  5. thai round kick to the ribs, you get so much torque with the thai kick and you hit with the shin so its basically turning your leg into a baseball bat.  I also like the side kick, you can generate alot of power.

  6. When I saw the question, instantly, I had an answer....

As I started to type, I realized that no matter what I named, I had reasons for other kicks I like as well.

I don't really know how to answer.

Side, mule, front snap, crescent, hook, roundhouse (honorary bow to Chuck), stamp...  I like them all, then I see how they can be countered and I hesitate...

I don't know - I guess that it depends on the situation.  I like whatever kick is the most effective and least risky given the situation at the moment.

How's this:  My favorite 'kick' is the APPROPRIATE action be it a kick, a punch, evasion, lock, or throw...  whatever works in the given situation.

The idea is not to choose but to respond or dictate - the attacker tells you what will work with their actions - you don't decide.

  7. Its a bit of a toss up btwn a shin kick and a toe kick.

Shin kick uses the heel to push in and down on the knee or top of foot.  Excellent for stopping an oncoming attacker.

Toe kick uses the toe to attack soft points around the waist.  Very effective and damaging to an attacker.

  8. Spot roundhouse kick!

  9. spinning back kick coz its...fun and powerful

i also like jumping scissor turning kick

  10. Round kick to the mid-section.  I like it because you can hear the air escaping from the opponent's lungs, then I know that's the beginning of the end......

With my hands, elbow strike to the side of the head.

  11. Knee strike, both straight and 45 degree, because I like to fight in clinch range.

  12. what i love to do and it really throws my opponents off is act like I'm going to throw a low back leg round house kick but then at the last moment once i go below their guard i will come up on their blind side with a hook kick to the head. they never see it coming. Ive won tournaments this way. i am in tkd but i learned it from a b.b. in kungfu. impressive if you time it right and works like a charm.

  13. I agree with pugpaws and sensei  tho I dont practice that kick for reasons I wont mention here the bad guys already have enough ideas.

Shin kick to the ribs liver and spleen or swung up in close to the groin followed by thrusting the knee into the lower abdomen same leg.Technique is from SAIFA KATA.Why the knee thrust because the opponents natural flinch reaction to being struck in the groin will trap your leg the knee thrust not only frees the leg but also puts him on his ***.Just thrust your hips and knee forward .

Side or stomp kick  to hip joint thigh knee instep etc. which can be found in many kata especially OKINAWAN.

ANY ONE OF THEM WILL DO THE JOB.

  14. My favorite is the toe kick. Few people in the U.S.A. are even taught the kick. It is easy to learn. You do not have to kick hard. and the toes directed into the spleen or liver meridian on the inside of the leg is very effective. It is easy to drop an opponent to the ground.

  15. Depends on the situation, but I like Muay Thai leg kicks because they land against most people who have a deep "boxer's" stance, and they add up fast.  You can really slow down your opponent a lot by hitting those muscles and nerves in the thigh.

My other fave is the good old fashioned front kick to the stomach - more of a strike technique than a thai style push kick - it works great against Muay Thai and other open-centerline stances.  (Not so good against grapplers who can catch that kick, though.)

Basics, performed well are the best techniques to use in my opinion.

  16. I'm with you about the side kick.

My other favorite is the ordinary old front snap kick, very powerful.

A lot of the fancy shmancy ones leave you right open.

Oh I forgot to mention the triple flapping back spinning eki-flip.. my own invention, that's useless too ! hehe joking !

  17. i like so many capoeira kicks ima list them all chief

bencao, chapa, chapa cruzada, martelo de estralo

  18. i like the simple kicks. the fanciest kick i do is a  turn-back side kick.

                                         -------my answer-------

front snap kick & side kick when being rushed, but i use those kicks in other ways. i like it because its easy to set up.

round house kick for every thing, except when being rushed. dido.

  19. side thrust kick (yoko geri kekomi - karate).

this kick can be used when somone punches you, attempts a roundhouse  or runs towards you.

if you can hit someone in the knee with a thrust kick it could easily break it.

it is also a useful kick for a grappler because it keeps good distance
