I loved Tirenia at the sea also Lucca, Cararra. What are some small places not quiet to touristy that you would recommend? I use to live in Vehicannio not to far from Pisa. Of course went to Rome, Venice and Florence alot, Naples, Pompeii ect., but I really loved the trips to the places that you don't hear about from everyone. What is your favorite non tourist destination in Italy?

I'm sure I misspelled some names sorry.

  1. One of my favorite regions is Umbria.  We stayed just outside of Spoleto.  Spoleto was so charming, as was all the other towns we drove through.  We checked out the Grotte di Frasassi (sp?) - the caves - it was so beautiful inside!  We also headed to Bomarzo for the Monster Park.  Very cool!  We were all over the place during our stay, but by far Umbria was my favorite area and I could probably live forever in Spoleto!

  2. come to Mondovi.... you'll love it!in Piemonte....

  3. Makkah al Mukarramah & Madinah al Munawwarah in Saudi Arabia

  4. Some cities I like are Mantova, Parma, Ferrara, Bologna, Arezzo, etc.

  5. I used to live in Udine, and I loved an small town called Cividale del Friuli, and also other places in Friuli like Palmanova, Tarvisio, Gorizia...

I love the castles and villages in the "colli piacentini", the hills near Piacenza.

  6. Perugia and Todi, umbria

Siena is wonderfull too, Arezzo, toscana

    Camaldoli, emilia romagna

  7. Of the less touristy places, I really like Mantova and Ferrara. Mantova has a terrific music festival in the summer and a lot of historic buildings in the old town including a moated castle, Palazzo Te, an interesting baptistry, .... They have some good food as well. The Palio in Ferrara in May or the busker festival in late summer are always worth seeing. Also, Marostica even when the living chess isn't running and Soave.

There are so many festivals in small towns here that there's almost always interesting something to do somewhere in Italy.

  8. Lecco is not touristy and neither is near by Monza. Both cities are very nice and the area between them is full of small villages that are really neat to visit.

The small towns about 20 miles north of bergamo (such as San Pellegrino) are all very nice to visit - good to ski in the winter and great to walk the trails in the summer.
