Your first favorite driver...

Mine was in the early 70's when I first started watching NASCAR... I was a big fan of Elmo Langley and Dave Marcis. Dave Marcis always impressed me behind the wheel for so many years! As for Elmo, he was just a great inspiration. For those who don't remember, Elmo died while driving the pace car @ Suzuka Japan back in the mid 90's. We need more drivers like both of these guys in todays racing...

Who was your FIRST favorite driver and what's your best memory of them?

  1. Jeff Gordon is and has been my only favorite driver. His winning the championship in 2001 is my best memory. That was the year I started watching NASCAR and it was so exciting!!!

  2. Richard Petty ,I met him in 1968 when I was 4 and he autographed a 1:64 scale car for me and I still have it 40 years later. Also liked The Silver Fox.

  3. Davey Allison

  4. Tony Stewart

  5. I was a fan for the first time in '99 I liked tony Stewart. Then I started to get tired of his cocky attitude and being put on probation every other race. When Elliott Sadler started to perform in 2004, I started pulling for him. I knew he was a great guy, and he was finally showing potential to win. He won two races that year and made it to the first chase. Currently I wish I stuck with Tony.

  6. Alan Kulwicki, Winning Winston cup 1992.

    I think I was 15 or so.

    R.I.P.

  7. jeff gordon

  8. Jeff Gordon winning his fourth Cup title back in 2001. I'm one of those "newer" fans, so my "history" isn't nearly as interesting as some others.

  9. Jeff Gordon. I picked him as my favorite driver when he was a rookie and have liked him ever since.

  10. I agree with you all the way, sweetie!

  11. kasey kahne all-star race worst to first on fan vote in

  13. My first favorite was Jeff Gordon because I didn't know any better. ;-)

Haha...and my second favorite was Dale Sr.  I grew up around racing and I started really watching the races in elementary school.  My favorite memory of him is when he finally won the Daytona 500 after so many close calls.

  14. harry gant

  16. 43 Richard Petty. Met him at the Petty Museum. Will always be a fan of #43.

  17. 43,The King!!!!

  18. When I was a youngster Richard Petty was the thing. He had the coolest cars too. 68 -70 dodges were awesome.

  19. The 3 car. Favorite moment. Clinching seventh cup.

  20. JEFF GORDON

  21. Not sure. Probably Dale Sr. As for my favorite moment for Dale Sr., I actually didn't watch NASCAR at this time, but i'd pick the 1998 Daytona 500 because he finally won that race! It took him 20 years to do it, but he finally got it! R.I.P. Dale, you were a great driver and a great champion! R.I.P. Dale 1951-2001!

  22. Benny Parsons and Richard Petty. Fireball Roberts was as well.

  23. Rusty Wallace.............fave memory, seeing him race at the Oct Atlanta race in 2005. It was the 1st race I attended, it was his last year racing, & it's the only race I got to see him race in. Even though he was involved in a wreck on like lap 7, it was still worth it to see him drive the #2 Miller Lite Dodge around the racetrack.

  24. Alfred "Speedy" Thompson.

Watching him practice at the brand new Charlotte Motor Speedway.

My Dad took me. I was 8 years old.

  25. Cale Yarborough and Harry Gant    Cale/ Allison fight and Harrys last win I believe during a rain delay and he was laid back in his car w/o any worrys about winning.
