What is your best defense? What do you say? This is for all situations.

I personally go with I'm just exercising and all my routine c**p about how i can't damage anything, anyone or myself because it is a longboard not a skateboard. i hate it when they act like they can confiscate my board

yeah... I didn't know what i should categorize this as. so in my logic it is pavement surfing

  1. John F... thanks for the effort... but im neither a punk nor scrawny. You grew up in the 60's but this is 2008...where a cop doesn't care if your "sidewalk surfing" they dont care who you are... if there stopping a kid skating down a sidewalk i guarantee you  they have nothing better to do and they just want to harass us. Trust me i've been there more than once. In miami if you run from a cop, doesn't matter if you kiss his a$$ after he catches you... you're gonna be put in jail for a few hours after they realize they can't pin anything on you. You might have age... but we all have experience. Thats why I pick up my board and walk. If a cop tries to beat me down for walking then who's wrong? Not all cops are crooked and the ones who are going to hurt a kid for skating down the street are in BIG trouble.

THUNDERandFLASH... don't let a cop push you around... you know you did nothing wrong. Just pick up your board.. apologize and walk away.

"I spent lots of time running from the cops, but I was never disrespectful when they caught me"- John F

I wish that was the case for everyone who ran from a cop.

  2. just say its a longboard, not a skateboard. i get yelled at all the time by cops for skateboarding. it makes me mad because they are all like "get away from here, skatebaordings not allowed. now go before i take your board and arrest you" and all that other cop stuff that they usually go on saying, and they usually do it when im skating down the street and stop to look at some stairs or a nice hand rail, but there are never any signs saying not ot skate. just say yeah yeah i wont skate even though its completely harmless and when they leave, go skate

  3. Hey, DangerNik,

You maybe a typical college student, and I bet you know all of your rights too. But that doesn't mean squat when some neanderthal cop decides its time to beat your scrawny a$$. A polite excuse usually works best, especially of it is delivered with a smile and not sarcasm. All cops were once kids. Lots were skaters and surfers (h**l, some still are!). So, even if you are going to get hassled and chased away, there's no reason to pull the arrogant, "I know my rights" smart a$$ attitude. It'll only get you hurt (or fined). remember things like surfing and skating are fun. let's not go out of our way to make them hassles. I'm no skater, and never have been. But I'm a product of the 60s, and I have been around the block a few times. When I was kid, I spent lots of time running from the cops, but I was never disrespectful when they caught me. That bought me a lot of breaks in my somewhat misspent youth.

  4. Hey unless it says you can't skate U can do wheelies nad kickflips right in front of him, and if there is a sign just say you didn't know.
