I just can't believe it! I mean, yeah, she had that fracture and everything... but I think she would've been fine to at least wait and then get ready for the Breeders Cup Distaff.

This is a big bummer )=

I really wanted to see her maybe race against Indian Blessing sometime in the near future.

Your opinions?

Thanks.

  1. Apparently she's going to be bred to Giant's Causway.  I'm really interested in what kind of foal it'll produce.  She comes from one of the best broodmare lines in history, and chances are that she'll continue that.  Did you know that the champion 3 year old filly in Europe, Peeping Fawn, comes from the same female family?  Peeping Fawn's dam's dam was Blush With Pride, the same dam of Rags' dam.  The chances are high that she has the X-Factor gene (that gives racehorses extra large hearts, like Secretariat's), and Curlin and Giant's Causeway could both have it as well.  Imagine that foal!!!

  2. I was so upset yesterday when I found out! I really wanted to see her race again in the Distaff and maybe even against the boys again. She was an amazing filly on the track! I can see why they retired her, though. She would need four more months off and it would have been hard to get her fit and some prep races run in time for the Breeder's Cup. Plus, since the pastern hasn't held up it is probably risky to keep running her on it. I am soooooooooo disappointed but at least she did not have a catastrophic breakdown on the track. I am thankful for that, at least. I see they wasted no time getting her back to Ashford Stud. They are going to need to get her vet checked for breeding and try to get her into heat quickly so she can be sent to the breeding shed this season. I am glad they are breeding her to Giant's Causeway - that would have been my pick for her first breeding, too! It will be interesting to see how her foals turn out.

  3. I really wanted to see her race again. It is very sad to see her retire so soon. Although she did suffer a hairline fracture, she was making a comeback until she reinjured the same foot. I think she would have been amazing in the Breeder's Cup Distaff and maybe even in the Classic. Hopefully, she will make a good broodmare.

  4. I had not heard that and I am very disappointed.I really wanted to see her race again. I will read the story.I am thinking that they were afraid of her ending up like Ruffian and that would be terrible.

  5. It's very disappointing isn't it?  She reinjured that leg so she would not have been racing until the fall.  They would have had to rush her back into training and get a couple of preps before the Distaff (or Ladies Classic as it's now being called).  I'd love to see her race again, but I think it would be asking a little much to ask for her to rush back like that.  It's a shame about that leg, but I'm glad it's not more serious and that she gets to continue living a nice long life making lots of babies.  Since it would be so long before she could come back to racing and since she has such a great pedigree and can make a ton of money breeding, it would be silly not to let her go start breeding now.  It's very sad that we won't see her anymore, but we do have a great crop of 3 year olds, both colts and fillies, and we do get to see some older horses coming back this year.  It's a big loss for racing not to have Rags anymore, but I do appreciate her connections trying to bring her back and I have to respect their decision to send her to breeding now.  At least we will have some awesome future racehorses and I know you'd love to see a Curlin-Rags foal!

  6. =O NO WAY! This sucks!
