I have always been wondering this:

I have the same height as top swimmers.

I have almost the same technique as top swimmers.

I have almost the same strength as top swimmers.

Yet, I'm not as fast as top swimmers.

What am I missing?

Is there like, some secret why they swim better than everyone?

Thanks for your opinion.

  1. Technique.  Get a coach.

  2. You left out body mass and body-streamlining. Remember the higher the mass the more strength you need, also the less streamlining of your body while swimming will create higher friction and therefore increase the effort you must put in to it.

Also things such as the type of swim wear and even body hair will impact your swimming spead.

What ever you do, and no matter what any one says, taking perfomance inhancers are not the way to go... what good is winning if you are not good enough to do it without cheating?

P.S. I personally would not swim again in a clorine pool... for me it has to be the salt pools.

  3. Although you may look like a 'top swimmer' in your physical appearance, and your technique looks similar, does not mean that you will be the best in the water. Swimming is about a combination of some of the things you stated above, and experience, amount of training, specific technique that works for your body and stroke, your effort level, your coaches expertise level, etc. Just remember that you can't create a list and say, I mark up to all of these, so why aren't I number one. Just continue to work on your level of training, expose yourself to as much high level competition as possible, work with your coach and keep up a determined attitude, not one of defeat or exasperation.  Just so you know, I never looked like a water polo goalie, I was too small. My coaches even told me that I would never get a scholarship because of that. I also had created a technique which is still largely unique to me. I continued to work hard, develop my technique, and I did get my NCAA D-1 Scholarship. Determination works wonders.

  4. training technique and conditioning. being a mark spitz fan i swam the butterfly so many times and much i changed the definition of my upper body without me noticing. i still have swimmers wings

  5. There is no secret to doing well in sports.

Even if you work harder you may not do as well as others.

Some people have a natural talent for a sport, and need little to develop that skill, others with the same physical appearance can not regardless of work or training do as well.

  6. i am a fairly good swimmer and i would learn new tricks i know the handstand, flip in the air, swim with one hand, four flips underwater and alot of other stuff just work hard and try to do better.bye

  7. You are not bald....? Weight,  .....? Training.....?

I think its down to the latter.

I am a swimmer & find you get better the more you practise.

Psychologically its like any sport, be head-strong.

Seriously you sound pretty determined, & with  ambition, like

yours,I am sure you will go far.

Just keep at it all the time...!!.

    Good Luck.
