Your opinions on North American Union[NAU]?

I think it's a horrible idea, since the borders between US/Mexico and US/Canada keep each country's customs more unique. Combining them basically into one country would just destroy years of history and culture. Plus, NAFTA is flawed.

  2. I don't think we'd become one big country ... and I would head for the streets to protest if that happened.

    But ... trade barriers usually don't help anyone over the long term. I'm not saying some side-deals aren't necessary in some cases, but free trade usually lifts most boats.

  3. The current trade union (NAFTA) has worked well (flawed only because much of the treaty has been ignored, mainly by the USA) but a NA Union is a pipe dream.  A union could work in Europe because there is no one omnipotent economic and military power but that is not true in NA.  Mexico, the Central American countries, and Canada would become subservient to the USA so no leaders in these countries would sign such a treaty.
