You know, beacuse of the Evangelical religion and the name Evangeline is based off it.

Do you find this morally right/appropriate or not?? Is it disrespectful to either religion or the child?

  1. The word means in "keeping with the Gospel". As a fellow Catholic I see no issue here, it's a beautiful name.

  2. i don't think so. I love the name Evangeline by the way!

    hope i helped!

  3. "Evangelical" means "pertaining to the Gospel".  Therefore, one would expect all Christians, Catholics included, to consider themselves to be evangelical.

  4. I believe this is of Greek origin...why don't you google it or something?  I'm almost positive that the evangelical religions adopted the name, not the other way around....It's very pretty to the ear, almost musical.  I like it.

  5. a name is a name.

  6. Evangeline means "Messenger of Good News" so I think it would be appropriate. As Catholics, we are called on to spread the Good News. Good luck on your baby girl!

  7. I'm Catholic and I don't have any problems with it.

    It's a gorgeous name.

Ask your priest asap, to make sure he won;t have a problem on the day of baptism.

  8. Actually, the word "evangelical" comes from the Greek word for "good news."  The pre-fix "ev" is for 'good' and the word "angel" means "messenger."  The Evangelical churches took their name from this word but the word did not originate there.  It also means "enthusiastic" or "zealous."

I was raised Catholic.  I don't think it's at all disrespectful or immoral in any way!  I'm not particularly religious--more spiritual-- but I think it's a beautiful name.
