I was commandeered to memorize passages from the bible (and of course would forget to do it).

  1. I enjoyed Sunday School and still have a book I won as a prize at Sunday School.

Sunday School was great, it's just the religion I don't go for.

    Cheers :-)

  2. i loved the stickers! and the silly puns tehy had on them, i forgot them now, but i did love the stickers.

  3. Did I rebel at being forced?  You bet.  I was thrown out.

  4. Yes for a long time I hated churched and would fake being sick to sleep in.

  5. The idea of being involved with other people who you at least have one thing in common with is good, its easier to communicate with these people because you have something to talk about. Really I hated it because I was forced, literally. Its not like school where everyone feels forced but goes and learns anyways, but I feel like most church people are so set in their ways that they try and force beliefs on you. Unlike school they don't want you to grow and learn independently, but to really follow what they believe blindly. I didn't really rebel but grew my own brain and have my own thoughts, not letting others try and influence me so harshly into their ways.

  6. I started Sunday School when I was in kindergarten, went through 12th grade, went to a Catholic university and continued in graduate school at that same Catholic university.  I married a man whose upbringing was very, very similar.  When I was young I was forced into it, although it was a choice as I got older.  It makes for great stories today.

Thank God I'm not a Christian, but it's politically expedient for my husband's sake to pretend to be a good Catholic wife.  He knows the truth and is okay with it.

  7. It was a fun experience for me & honestly that is where I got a lot of my foundation & values from my parents as well as my church. Growing up my family was very active in the church (we're pretty socially conservative & so am I) & were there frequently. I did enjoy the donuts & the songs & the Bible memorizing games. Honestly, it was a fun time & I made a lot of friends & truly did enjoy going to church during childhood.

  8. My everyday life was like Sunday School growing up.  I grew up in a hard-core fundamentalist born-again environment where Christianity was all I knew.  I had read the entire bible several times over and was made to feel guilty if I had not devoted 10% of my daily time towards reading the bible or praying.  So I read the bible every night (or tried to), attended Church AT LEAST three times a week and was also a singer in the youth band, a bible-study founder and leader in my middle school and high school, and one of the "prayer warriors" for my youth group.

Lol, looking back, I guess I've come a FAR way.  I was heavily involved with church and church life until my early twenties.  I am a proud Inclusive Monotheistic now.  So I guess my "rebellion" came a few years later :)

EDIT--Haha, yeah, but to be honest, at the time I loved it.  I was busy 24/7, but I guess it kept me out of trouble.  What I didn't like, though, was that 24/7 sense of guilt.  I'm glad to be away from that.

  9. I actually liked Sunday school. It seemed a nice time to learn about God and religion. I met many nice people there and actually learn what I wanted to learn. I never once rebel against going there because I looked forward to it. Ironic thing is that now I'm Agnostic.
