I've had deaths and things like that, and of course all of them have been hard to deal with. But, surprisingly one of my saddest moments was when I worked for a call center. An older lady called in and wanted to cancel her credit card. I was the one who was supposed to stop her, so I asked the standard, "Why do you want to cancel your card today?" She responded, "I have no need for it anymore." I tried to overcome this, and went on about the great rate I could offer her...yada yada..Well, to my surprise, she came back with.."I don't think you understand. I really have no use for it. Honey, I'm dying of an inoperable brain tumor. I've not got much time left." What do you say about that? I felt so helpless for a woman I'd never even met. She continued her conversation with me, and we talked for about an hour. She was worried about her son, and how he would be after her passing. I tried to make the situation lighter and we talked of better times in your younger days. She told me about meeting her husband, and how great it was when they had their son. After that day I quit that job. I couldn't imagine how unimportant it was to keep a credit card open after that day. It may not have been the actual saddest, but it ranked up there pretty high.

1996 when my nana died after fighting breast cancer for 10 years, but she was 84. When my dad`s twin brother died in 1998 from a pancreas disease, he died suddenly aged only 67.
