Question:

Your thoughts on 20-20?

Do you see any semblance of strategy while playing a 20-20 match? Can one have a predefined strategy? I dont see any----looks like play by the ear!

As an Indian, why do I get a feeling that IPL is like a dog and pony show? Am I the only Indian or others (including non-Indians) share my view?

This is the 1st IPL match I watched, it was cosely contested, but am I wrong in assuming that the passion that exists while playing for ones country was lacking. The only person who seemed excited was Harbhajan. But then there is nothing new about it !! He is an excitable person.

I found the cheer-leaders and their skimpy costumes distasteful. I come from a traditional rajput family, I do not see how this fits in with my culture. Is it any different from other Indians?

Sorry, seem to focus on negatives, if you see some positives please let me know. I appear to view these events with, perhaps, a jaundiced eye ! Hopefully. it is exposing some younger Indian players, but its just slog!

  1. 20-20 is great, heaps of runs heaps of wickets in only 3 hours.

Im not Indian (aussie through and through) and a huge cricket fan. and like all forms of the cricket the 20-20 will help cricket by introducing no cricketing folk to the world of cricket. Of course there isnt the same level of passion that you see when you are playing for you country but what do you expect, they are not playing for there country, but this is nothing new, it has been quite some time since i have seen any passion for the game and country when teams are playing australia.

"I found the cheer-leaders and their skimpy costumes distasteful. I come from a traditional rajput family, I do not see how this fits in with my culture. Is it any different from other Indians?"

Get a life, i dont know how a traditional rajput is different to the rest of the world, but for heavens sake, we are in the 21st century its time you started living it. Here is australia women walk down the street in less then what those cheerleaders are wearing. If you / your upbringing dont like this form of the game, its simple dont watch it. but about the only cricket fan in the world that wont watch the game because there are good looking women doing a little dance once and a while.

  2. 20 20 is a crowd thing, and helps draw in the big $$$.

I live in Australia, and have watched some of the IPL which is on at about 11pm, and found it a bit disappointing. I've been reading cricket fan's comments on various websites and they don't really see the point of it, but watch it anyway.

20 20 is fast so it keeps you entertained, and often you see a collapse but I hate it when the players just play like they do in tests.

I enjoy watching Sehwag, but my own team of Deccan Chargers are failing miserably haha. Must switch alleigances...lol.

The cheerleaders are way out of India's culture I thought, it seemed more like westernized culture and Amercanised eg the Superbowl. I thought they were a bit much honestly.

But this form of the game is impacting on other forms and making players keep up with the growing trend of "slogging."

    Just my opinion

  3. IPL sucks!!!!

  4. The IPL 20-20 games except a few like todays have been one

sided affair. It has been sort of watch when you want and not

serious enough until the game gets tight. Both the Mumbai

games which were lost by them, were very close. Other games

have turned out to be one man show or at most 2-3 players.

This is what kills the game, specially when you route for all the

teams. This is not like WC 20/20 where each country playing

against others. But I love watch a great game which I was lucky

    enough to watch today.

Coming back to cheerleaders with skimpy clothing - I do not

get this part. cheerleading is not cricket and definitely does

not mix well with Indian culture. May be the younger audience

like it and I have nothing to say about it.

The good things that IPL has brought is the friendship

between all players. I do not know how much of sledging goes

on, but definitely it is not shown on the cameras. Other things

it has exploited is the on the young players. But so far they

have been given opportunities, but very few have taken it.

It is too early to say anything in its entirety until the middle of

    the season.

Most of 20/20 is slogging and have seen some wonderful

    catches as well.

  5. What is IPL?

  6. T20 is a entertaining game & very fast

  7. certainly cricket carnival

  8. The concept of 20-20 is all about entertainment and not much about sports. We can say that it is entertainment served in cricket's platter. Even if you ask the players, they will confess that it is all 'Money and Gimmick show'. So no sports fan should expect to see 'sportsmanship' in this iteration of the game.

The game is for the busy people of India and the world who want to enjoy the game of cricket, but can't wait for the 100 overs to be bowled. The fans of 20-20 all wants to see just quick fall of wickets and quicker boundaries. The cricket board are serving cricket as per the viewer's taste.

Its not just negatives, the concept of IPL is providing excellent opportunities to the young talent of Indian Cricket, to show their might in front of the whole world. In IPL, Heroes will be made, and so will be Losers.

And yes....Wake up 'Dear Rajput', we Indians are living in the 21st century. We know that you traditional folks are toooo... 'proud' to stand this, but let me tell you that the game of 20-20 cricket is is for majority of people, and your opinion is a minority is globalising India. By the way, the cheer-leaders is for entertainment of the viewers. All the major sports leagues of the world have adopted this concept, so why should cricket be left out in the cold. Besides, if your opinion is taken to be an exception, no one is objecting this cheer-leading concept. Changes are necessary to maintain the freshness of a new concept like 20-20. If you are offended by the cheerleaders, stop watching 20-20, cause the concept is here to stay. Besides, I am supremely confident that the concept will not find its way to the International cricket, so be assured.

P.S: Hey...I thought that the 'Rajputs' were proud people, but your comments to our Australian contributor 'Michael' were arrogant. You are certainly an exception.

  9. I  watch IPL just  to see some good batting, fielding, bowling and

exciting matches,I ignore whatever I don't like in the IPL.
