Question:

Your thoughts on Mazatlan, Mexico?

What is Mazatlan like? Is it pretty nice? Dangerous?

We're 25, want to do a lot of lounging on the beach, maybe some hiking, snorkelling. And of course drinking beer on the beach...

How's the food there? Are things pretty affordable once you get there?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thank you.

  1. My husband and I went there and had a wonderful time.  The hotel we stayed at was beautiful and it has its own beach that was really nice (and that was a plus), we did wave boarding and it was awesome (gidgets body double taught us, so she said). It was El Cid Marina Hotel, its not in the middle of everything, but its the nicest and about a mile walk, which we enjoyed, but there are 100's of taxis and I felt safe. The hotel will help with all the things to do and and they will pick you up from the hotel.  It was affordable depending on what you do and eat.  We went sailing (awesome I would recommend The Bulla from the red headed Irishman/Mexican and there food and drinks were included and good), four wheel riding (fun), snorkeling was not the best.  The only thing that made me sad was they have horseback riding and the horses looked sad.  Food was really good especially the seafood!  We would walk around the town and get a beer on the beach and watch the waves.  I loved it because there is not as much tourist and it was the friendliest place there, everyone wanted to help.  If want to know anymore, just ask, have fun!!

  2. Nice place been there twice.  Stayed at the "Playa Mazatlan".  Less crowded than many other places - but's popularity is building.

The beach is nice and warm - lots of tourista shopping nearby - prices are affordable.  Wander down the beach road to Senior Frogs.

They warn tourists to stay away from the bull fights and downtown areas.

  3. We are 30-something US citizens living and working full-time here in Maz. It is a big city (1/2 million), but in our opinion safer than any US city the equivalent size. There is lots of beach (14 miles in the city limits alone), snorkeling is fair at best, and as far as hiking, the lighthouse, El Faro, is a nice hike with great views. Food is great, and you will find everything is alot cheaper here than most Mexican coastal destinations. As far as the last posters comments, we go downtown almost daily and have been to all of the bullfights and have never been worried about our safety at either place. Come on down, we'll buy you a Pacifico!
