Do you think that depression is just a mental disorder or can depression be caused by your environment. For example, if a person were being put in an environment where they weren't getting certain needs met. Could that cause true depression? Do you think that the enivironment is the cause for the mental state or is depression more of a clinical state? What I am trying to say is can depression be characterized in different ways? What are your thoughts on depression?

  1. Environment is definitely a factor! It's a case of bringing out something that may of been there before - but having been influenced by other things and becoming inflamed and much worse. I find all i need to do is sit in the same place for enough time with no social activity etc to start my depression off agan!

  2. My personal opinion based on what I have seen so far...

Depression should only be diagnosed for the mentally weak. However, anyone can be diagnosed for depression these days, and they will be prescribed one of many anti-depressants that will either complicate the situation or make them reliant.

For most people, depression is an excuse. Most people are mentally fit to battle with their situations, but they choose to accept defeat and not face their demons head-on. They tell a doctor about their problems, and are diagnosed with depression.. and they use that excuse to quit the battle.

Few cases, a person is not mentally strong enough to battle with personal life issues, and he or she is indeed depressed because of it. These people would be considered mentally unstable.

Most people who are diagnosed with depression are not mentally unstable.

  3. I try not to think about it.

  4. It can be caused by exterior situational factors or a chemical imballance in the brain.
