Your thoughts on home schooling?

My mum said that if I get suspended again she's gonna put me in home schooling. I'm 13 and in year eight. How would you feel if you got home schooled? Would it be good or would it be bad for someone of my age or whatever.

  1. Well I always enjoyed being homeschooled. I was able to work at my own pace and didn't have to worry about all of the junk that is in the public schools. I hung out with my friends all the time and did everything a public school student would do. If you really like the company of your friends with you all the time however, then don't get suspended again.

  2. I had 3 different High Schools, ALL with different Credit Systems and classes which made it nearly impossible to Graduate! I think it ought to be allowed and we might have less of a "High School Drop-Out" rate!

  3. How I would feel would very much depend on what my mum's idea of homeschooling was. If it meant doing school at home, the same stuff as school, but no one to talk to, I'd be making sure I didn't get suspended again. Being chained to the kitchen table for the rest of my secondary education would be very depressing.

If this was not her idea, I'd be more interested. Go and do a bit of research. Start here: http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/meth... If you find something there that sounds like what you think your education should be, then tell your Mum and ask her to help you do more research. There are lots of advantages to homeschooling. You have a lot more control over what you learn and when you learn it. You have the option to study things that aren't available at school.

If you are looking for curriculum choices (for whatever subject) look here: http://homeschoolreviews.com/

The important things for you to think about are:

*What the law says you must learn

*What your mum says you must learn

    *What you want to learn

You also need to have a life outside of home, of course. Do you do extra-curricular activities? Is there any you want to do? How are you going to make sure you keep up with your old school friends? Socialising doesn't have to be an issue, but it depends what your mum has to say about that too.

Try and make sure (if you choose to go this way) that you and your parents don't view this as a punishment. Try looking at it as a new beginning. Accept your mum will be very strict to start off with, but she should chill over time. Of course you'll have to prove yourself to be a trustworthy individual. Learn to negotiate with your mother. "I'm not doing it!!!" and running off to your room is a bad idea. "This curriculum makes no sense to me, can I try this one? Tell her the name of curriculum and bring up the webpage to show her. If possible, tell her why you chose that one. "It has pretty pictures" is a bad reason ;) "this one has more word problems, and I need more practice at them," "this one goes into more depth," "I'm more interested in biology at the moment, and would like to take advantage of that before I stop being interested!" are examples of good reasons :) As far as mothers are concerned anyway :)

Like I said, do some research. If you decide you would rather homeschool, go and tell your mum and show her the stuff you've been reading. Don't wait to get suspended again! If you don't want to homeschool, you'd better behave yourself ;)

  4. You might like it, you might not, just depends on the person......

  5. Homeschooling has nothing to do with your age. There are plenty of kids for whom it's good at your age and plenty for whom it wouldn't be good. Since it sounds like school isn't a place that's working out for you since you are getting suspensions, then homeschooling could be quite good for you--more of a chance to focus on your education, less chance of being negatively affected by whatever's going on at school that's causing you to behave in ways that are getting you suspended.

Wherever you are, however, you ought to be making good choices for your life, be it in homeschooling or in school. If you know right now that school is a place whose influence is really hard to overcome and you don't feel capable of making good choices there, but believe you'd make better choices homeschooling, then consider ASKING your mom to homeschool you. If you do homeschool, you'd have to make sure to make good choices--after all, it's YOUR life you are making good or bad through your choices--and to have your social side met through a variety of activities.

  6. I was home schooled age 13 and 14 I would have caught on better and learned to get along with people better in a regular school I'm sure your parents think there doing good but it wont help your social life. Your best bet is to complain about it and explain your opinion so much they understand. I got in regular school in 9th grade was way behind and couldn't transfer credits or caught up on larger social culture of public school.

  7. i don't believe  in home-schooling..

    i'm 15...and i can't imagine myself being home-schooled..

u just spend every minute of every single day at home...alone...isolated from your friends....

& your mom/dad is the teacher!

idk..i would not want to be home schooled

    but...that's only my opinion..

BEST OF LUCK =) in deciding what you'd like to do<333

  8. well im 15 i started in the begining of the 2008. and ever sense i'v been getting good grades. and meeting other people who is in homeschooling lol including hott guys lol....(dont know if you like that). but i love it...just make sure you have your social life!! cause u might get all emo without it. also you should have someone to help you with it when you need it and dont forget out handing in work, unless you want to be a bum on the streets

  9. Claudia does not know what she is talking about.  No home schooled kids I know spend all their time in the house, and in fact it is quite the opposite.  There is so much more socialization with home schooled kids, they are out in the real world every day.  It usually only takes 2-4 hours to do what would take you 6 hours to do in public school.  You actually learn to think, not just to memorize standardized answers for tests.  It is not easy and requires discipline and patience and a big commitment.  It is not for everyone, but if you put the effort into it it can be a very rewarding experience.

  10. All I can say...

    "Is God help you", lol....
