Most like it, the coil is going bad.  The best way to find out, you have to scan the computer ( you can't scan the computer with any scanner make sure the shop is using VAGCOM, dont worries if you go to the dealership.  You may can see in the dark with the engine running like sparks around the coil if you see that, it is time to replace the coil bucause will give you a lot more trouble when is raining or snowing.  Hope this help.
