Your walking through a swamp and find a guy stuck in mud up to his ears, what would you do?

While walking thro' swamps sounds crazy & dangerous I would firstly try to get a firm hold of something( like a strong tree branch) & initially hold the chap from sinking any furtherwhile asking him to be still which may help in preventing him from going down under.Next I'd try to ease the pressure on his right hand & try to take it above his head(not sure if its possible)Get that hand to hold onto the branch while I try to repeat the exercise with the other hand.Just hoping the guy is in his full senses I would now try to get something to pull him out.Chances r that there's nothing around( unlike in movies when very conveniently a sturdy rope is found) so I may just take off my shirt & make a sort of lasso & tie both his hands tightly to the branch while I rush off to get help from any closeby source.
