Youse Alaskari pockets Men’s 100m freestyle gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale
Youse Alaskari of Davie Nadadores pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, July 15.
The 18-year-old Alaskari served notice of his talent in the two-lap freestyle discipline as he outsmarted his opponents for gold medal of the discipline.
Alaskari experienced strong resistance from Nicholas Schwab in the race but with his utter determination, he managed to cruise his way towards the wall for gold medal.
With his nerve-wrecking pace, he stayed just a touch ahead of his strongest challenger and posted a nice time of 52.85 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Schwab, who remained 0.10 seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 52.95 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Or Gudmundsson of SC Hafnarfjordur, who remained 0.01 seconds behind and ended third in the discipline with the timing of 52.96 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Luke C Torres of South Florida Aquatics, who stayed 0.26 seconds behind and clocked a timing of 53.22 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Go Eisenberger of Pine Crest-FG, who was only 0.04 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 53.26 seconds.
Subsequently, Eisenberger was chased by Robert Swanbeck of Swim Florida-FL, who stayed 0.22 seconds behind and ended sixth in the discipline by producing a time of 53.48 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Radhames Kalaf of Naco-ZZ, who remained just 0.08 seconds apart and submitted a time of 53.56 seconds.
Kalaf was trailed by Jabar Baptiste of Unattached-FG, who secured eighth position of the event by producing a time of 53.76 seconds.
Subsequently, Baptiste was followed by John W Walsh and Nick C Carter of Westminster Academy, who ended their swims as ninth and tenth position holders with timings of 53.92 and 54.56 seconds respectively.
In addition, Alaskari was overjoyed with his fascinating efforts in the double lap event and articulated his desire of representing his country at the Olympic Games.
