Youssouf Mulumbu, the West Bromwich Albion midfielder, has revealed he has held discussions with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur regarding a possible move in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old is set to leave West Bromwich Albion in the summer and according to him, his agent is already in talks with a couple of sides. Mulumbu revealed he had left the decision up to his agent and expected fully to move to another club for the 2012-2013
season.
Mulumbu said in an interview:
“We have already started talking to teams like Newcastle and Tottenham.
For now, I'm leaving it all in the hands of my agent and I hope to have good surprises on my return from vacation.”
The defensive midfielder joined West Bromwich Albion in the January transfer window of 2009 on a loan deal, with the move being made permanent in the following summer transfer window. He admitted he had considered leaving the club in 2011 but was convinced
to stay.
His existing contract is until the summer of 2015, but Mulumbu believes it is time for a fresh challenge. He admitted he had stayed with West Bromwich Albion last season since that was to be his first full season with the club.
The defender revealed:
“Last year, I thought it would be a little premature to go because it was my first full season.
But I confirmed my promise this season. I continued to show all my abilities and I think I now have to look for another challenge.”
According to Mulumbu, he had a successful season at the club and was now looking to see what lay ahead in his career, preferably with a different side. During his time at West Bromwich Albion, Mulumbu has made 108 appearances in the league and has scored
11 goals.
He continued:
“I had a good year, I'm pretty confident and I will leave it now to my agent.
I'm going to go on holiday and come back stronger because I know that another big season lies ahead.”
Mulumbu began his career with Paris Saint-Germain B team in 2004, going on to join the senior team in 2006. He made just 13 appearances for them before being loaned out to Amiens SC and then West Bromwich Albion.
