The 38-year-old cricketer has been out of the national team since 2010 and has rarely taken part in domestic cricket to strengthen his case for a comeback to the national team. The great middle-order batsman has recently vowed to return
to the global stage and is now keen to prove his form and fitness to the selectors.
Yousuf was announced as the Lions’ skipper for the all-important tournament but the legendary batsman has asked Hafeez, Pakistan’s T20 skipper, to lead the team.
President of the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA), Khawaja Nadeem, expressed that there is no rift within the team and the leadership was willingly transferred to Hafeez by the experienced middle-order batsman.
“Yousuf himself surrendered his captaincy and offered Hafeez to lead the side,” the LCCA President expressed. “It's a great gesture from a great player to let Hafeez gain experience as captain. I have happily accepted his decision.”
Hafeez has always played the domestic T20 tournament for the Faisalabad Wolves but the opening batsman has switched to Lahore for the current event due to unknown reasons.
The Lions comprehensively defeated Karachi Zebras in their opening match by seven wickets and 11 balls to spare. Hafeez led the team from the front, scoring 53 important runs and picking up an important wicket to be announced as the
Player of the Match.
Yousuf, on the other hand, did not get an opportunity to bat in the match, but the seasoned campaigner is optimistic about returning to international cricket during the upcoming tours of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
“My aim is to return to international cricket by proving my form and fitness. I can’t say if I’ll be selected for the series against India or South Africa as it’s up to the selection committee and the Pakistan Cricket Board,” the former
Pakistan captain said last month.
