Youth Futsal league ends at U.A.E – Futsal News
LG Pompidou Footie 1 has won the Youth Futsal League title 9-4, after beating the Catalonia team, in a tournament organised by the Stadia 5, in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E).
The LG Pompidou Footie 1 competed against the Catalonia team, who were the title contenders of the Futsal League. A superb victory was marked by the LG Pompidou Footie 1 team after a well-fought match.
It was an identical win for the Footie 1, as they won 13 matches and lost only six during the tournament. The title was decided on the basis of the average points won by the teams in each match. The winners had an average of 2.05, whereas the runners-up
had an average of 2.00.
The LG Pompidou 2 team ended-up the third seed, with a total of nine wins and six defeats. The side had a point average of 1.42. The event was organised by Faris Al Mudaffer.
Futsal is gaining a lot of popularity in Middle East countries, as extreme weather conditions do not favour the outdoor form of the game. Hence, Futsal has gained popularity over a very short period of time in the region.
Al Mudaffer said, “It is a game of football with a different twist, that being an indoor five-a-side format. The level of competition is improving, but is still at a grassroots level. That’s why we are hoping to introduce a Futsal Academy in the future.
There is a lack of affordable facilities too, which would promote the game, as it is a different format of the beautiful game.”
The next tournament to be held by Stadia 5 will be the Howdra/Invicta Junior tournament, which is going to start in June. The tournament will feature matches in the Under-7 and U-9 divisions. 144 teams are expected to feature in the tournament, which is
an initiative by Princess Haya, of the U.A.E.
The Stadia 5 is being supported by the department of Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Government of Dubai. The authority is supporting the organisation to commence the Futsal programme in local public girls and boys schools.
