I am going to Venice with a couple of friends, just for one night then onto elsewhere in Europe.

Anyone know of a cheap hostel (or B&B etc.) which allows under 18s and doesnt require membership to any association?

  1. This is information about one of the cheaper youth hostels.  My daughter planned to stay there, but when she was in Venice, it was flooded (what a surprise!).  I got this information from their website (cut and pasted - except I fixed  the misspellings):

Ostello Della Gioventú in Venice (OstelloVenezia.it), is part of the Hostelling International association of Hostels in Italy.

Ostello Venezia l is beautifully located in an ancient, refurbished grain store on Giudecca Island in the heart of Venice.

We have different type of rooms Female Dorms, Male Dorms Private Rooms but all beds has one price 21 Euros!!!!.

Please read CAREFULLY all our conditions before the reservation .

Palladian churches, the Doge's Palace, the bridge of Sighs and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection are all within easy reach. The Youth Hostel has 254 beds and facilities include meals, TV room, common rooms, tourist information, luggage store for members, lockers.

Please note, if you are not a Member of Hostelling International there is an extra charge of €3 per person per night. Once you have stayed 6 nights at a HI Hostel you become a HI member, and no extra charges apply for future stays.

  2. Yes the one run by the IYHF (International Youth Hostel Federation) it is right beside the canal and is really clean and comfortable.

If you are not a member you pay a couple of Euros extra.

You will find it on the IYHF website
