Question:

Youth making positive changes in your community (thr arts/music/anything cool)?

I am working on a research project and trying to find teenagers/young adults that are doing their part to make positive change in their local community (or on a larger scale.) Any kinds of suggestions, referrals would be great. The more creative the better (ie: music, arts, volunteerism, photographers, cool projects, etc.) Can really be anywhere from small towns to major cities.

Thank you for any suggestions, links or referrals!

  1. The Academy of Business Leadershp offers a free seven week program during the summer (SBI) for youth in Southern California.

SBI is a unique 7-week program that teaches skills, ethics, and business, finance, entrepreneurship and leadership in combination with cutting-edge teaching methodologies, core values, and academic rigor while being in a fun, loving, and nurturing environment. SBI is a one-of-a-kind program specifically designed to fill the gap in standard middle and high school curriculum by preparing talented, yet, high-unrealized-potential students to become the next generation of leaders. We unlock our students’ passion and genius through immersion in a college environment, instruction by top MBA graduates and college students from prestigious universities, and access and exposure at the highest levels to Fortune 500 corporations, major institutions, and the leaders of our time.

The SBI program has graduated 2,500 students since 1992 and has been instrumental in fostering leadership and education/career development with our students. ABL has been featured in numerous magazines and publications, such as Forbes and Readers Digest, and has been honored on the Montel Williams Show and on the Tyra Banks Show.

Among the highlights of the SBI program for the students include:

Instruction by top business school MBA graduates. The program is hosted at various college campuses in Southern California, including UCLA, USC, Loyola Marymount University, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State LA, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and Santa Monica College.

Field trips to visit Fortune 500 companies in order to learn about various industries.

Networking and mentoring opportunities with executives and senior management from Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders.

Instruction of stock investing concepts in order to manage fictitious stock market portfolios.

Taking an idea for a product or business and then writing and presenting a business plan, using Business PlanPro, to a panel of leaders, executives and venture capitalists for real-world funding if the idea is feasible.

College preparation and life/career goal setting.

    Business etiquette training.

    Networking and Leadership training.

    ABL Seven Core Values training.

  2. Hi, my name is Sarah, and my friend Hanna and I began a small website that shows our photography which we are very interested in. We both have loved photography for ever and I know that I see a snapshot wherever we go. My other friend Hannah (different Hannah) decided to put a note on facebook about an organization called Abaana; specifically the clean water project. She was talking about how she wants to help this organization, but needed help. Of course, I voluntered, but was wondering if I could do anything for my own part that is seperated from the group. A small idea popped into my head. (remember: this was a small idea, not a large dream) I'm truely not trying to be cocky or anything, but I decided to put an option to sell my photographs if someone absolutely loved them. They are going to range in prices, and you can choose the sizes and all. I don't know if this is what you were looking for, but that is my story of trying to help Abaana:) I will give a link to my website, and a link to abaana/ the clean water project.

    Thank you,

    Sarah

  3. I love to help out my church, and have been doing so since I was 13 years old. I am not 21 and still continuing to help out. Here in Sacramento, Ca...I help teenagers in a retreat program where they are able to change their life for the better. We give talks, sing songs, engage in fun activities, and meet new people. In the course of 20+ years this program has been around, we've helped over 10,000 teenagers...and plan to continue. =]

I don't wanna go into further detail, but check out the site. It's one way teens make a positive change in the community!
