Youth shoots 8 people outside Chesapeake Arena - NBA Update
On Tuesday night outside the Chesapeake Arena, 8 people were wounded after a 16-year-old youth fired multiple shots from his semi-automatic weapon. According to the sources the incident took place when people gathered around outside
the arena to witness the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers game on the wide screen displayed outside the arena.
The shooting came as a result of a brawl between two high school groups. Initially police dispersed the mob but later on the 16-year-old opened indiscriminate shots. 3 bystanders were injured while 5 involved in the clash were
shot.
Out of the 3 bystanders, 22-year-old Norman Michael Richards was left struggling for his life. He is in a critical situation after being struck by a bullet in his back. According to the sources the other 7 didn’t sustain any life
threatening injury.
The police arrested the 16-year-old teen whose name has not been disclosed. He has been charged with 1st degree murder on 8 counts.
In connection to the murder police has taken Rodney Dewon Hill in custody. His attorney Billy Bock pleaded him not guilty.
The whole incident was covered by a cell phone and the footage was later on aired by a local news channel. According to the attorney the group clashed over trivial, "high school, girls-and-boys stuff.”
"It was the kind of stuff we used to settle with fist fights, but now these kids have guns,"
Hill was not specifically named as the shooter in the affidavit that resulted into his release from the custody. An Oklahoma judge issued his release order after finding him not guilty of shooting.
Apart of the 8 shooting victims a pregnant woman was also injured. She suffered trauma after she was punched or kick. Further arrests are being made.
The incident took its toll on the Thunder victory. They reached West’s finals after handing a 106-90 defeat to Lakers.
To prevent any further events the police department and Oklahoma Mayor Mick Cornett discussed the aspects of sealing the Thunder Alley, the place where the incident took place.
We're discussing alternatives to Thunder Alley," Citty said. "You are getting such large crowds that they become uncontrollable."
