Yovani Gallardo to start against Oakland Athletics – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers have slated Yovani Gallardo to start against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, March 6. Yovani Gallardo, who has been the team’s starter in the Opening Day games of 2010 and 2011, has yet to formally make a spring debut this year.
While the Brewers are traditionally known to hold a strong offensive lineup, the defence has gradually emboldened. The pitchers who lend credible strength to the team’s defence include the likes of Yovani Gallardo, Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum.
As for why he is starting a bit late in Spring Training, Gallardo attributes it to preparing himself well for the regular season.
"It's just one fewer [Spring Training] start, and I'm fine with that," Gallardo said. "The less you throw here in spring, the better. You want to be strong in the season, especially that first month."
Gallardo has not thrown on the chalked out plan this time round. That he was probably a bit late in throwing session makes no big difference.
"It's one of those things where you want to throw enough to show up to spring ready to throw every day in the bullpen," Gallardo said, "but you don't want to go too far."
The past season saw Yovani Gallardo making a start in 33 games, having one complete game. That he held a 3.52 ERA with 17 wins went on to show his effectiveness, having had 207 strike-outs in 207 innings that Gallardo pitched.
The career ERA of Yovani Gallardo, who made his debut in June 2007, stands at 3.63 in 118 games, winning 53 games with 732 strike-outs to his credit. Gallardo also remained the 2010 Silver Slugger in the Division, solidifying his credentials as a dependable
pitcher for the club.
This will be his sixth season. A look at his recent performance brings to fore the reality that he has honed the grip and command he has, as a pitcher, having added to his stamina. It will not be long before he is considered one of the elites of the game
as an accomplished starter in the days to come.
