Yu Darvish helps Texas Rangers humiliate Los Angeles Angels 9-2 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers humiliated the Los Angeles Angels 9-2 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, California on Saturday, July 21 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Michael Young had an excellent time with the bat as he singled to right and Elvis Andrus scored to put the Rangers 1-0 ahead. Mike Napoli and Catcher Yorvit Torrealba hit back-to-back home-runs in the second inning to dent the Angels’ confidence levels.
Ian Kinsler also made his presence felt with an RBI single to left and Adrian Beltre connected for a two run shot to cap a five run second inning.
Mike Napoli, who gave sensational results before the All Star Break, homered to left-centre in the third to give Texas complete control of the situation. Kinsler belted a home-run to left in the eighth to end the contest on a high for the Rangers.
Starting pitcher Yu Darvish grabbed his 11th win of the season after he struck-out 11, giving up just two runs in seven effective innings.
"When I come here and do well, it definitely feels good inside," Napoli said.
"Just catching all these guys, I have an idea of what they like to do, but they're going to try to attack my weaknesses and mix things up," Napoli said of the Angels. "I go in there knowing they're going to be tough on me. There's that extra competitive
thing against your friends."
"Some of the problems I've been having in the first inning, I paid particular attention to," Darvish said through a translator. "Beating a very good offensive team like the Angels naturally gives you confidence."
After getting the better of their arch rivals in series opener, the Angels were looking to put up another clinical show on Saturday to take an impassable series lead but the Rangers had other ideas.
The American League West Division leaders dominated Los Angeles in all aspects of the game to keep the series alive and it will be interesting to see if the Rangers can come up with a similar performance in the finale to consolidate their position at the
top of the league standings table.
