Yu Darvish vows to do his best for the Texas Rangers – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ pitcher Yu Darvish vowed on Friday, January 20, that he will do his best being part of the team. The newly hired Japanese pitcher is one of the most dazzling appearances in the team’s history being a promising prospect for the club.
His statement came after he was introduced on Friday with his Number 11 jersey. Darvish is a promising new addition to the Texas Rangers, with the amazing capabilities he possesses as a pitcher. With the talent he has, he wants to do his best for the team.
"[I want] to do the best I can do and make my starts and do the best for the team," Darvish said. "Regarding off-the-field things and pressure, it's something to try to not be too tight about. I'll have an open mind and be relaxed."
Coming here to Texas has been an overwhelming experience for the pitcher. What is great to see for him is the passion that the Rangers show for the game and the treatment meted out to the young pitcher from Japan.
"The Rangers made me feel like family and showed their passion for the game," Darvish said. "I'm excited. That's what I feel right now."
A look at the stats of Darvish shows why he is the best thing to happen to the Rangers in recent years. Having had his appearance in 167 games in his career, he has had 164 starts, winning 93 of those games. With an astounding 1.99 ERA, he has to his credit
1,250 strike-outs, which in itself show why the Rangers take pride in having him in the team now.
As his career is resplendent, Yu Darvish intends to work on the English language as well. He says his is listening is good, he wants to improve his speaking skills now.
"The hearing part, I think I'm OK," Darvish said. "The speaking part may take some time. But as time goes by, I think I'll be able to speak and understand better."
Yu Darvish will be in the Rangers for six years with a $60 million deal. He will join Spring Training next month.
