Yu-Gi-Oh: Torrential Tribute's Activation in a chain?

Ok then! I was wondering if the trap card Torrential Tribute can be activated in response to a chain.

[Torrential Tribute]

"Activate only when a monster is Summoned. Destroy all monsters on the field."

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Torrential_Tribute

It says to activate ONLY when a card is summoned, so is a chain different or does that mean it cannot be activated in response at all?

  1. I believe you can as long as the chain started upon the monster being summoned.  For the most part though, Torrential should always be activated first, but you can activate it in the middle of a chain because the chain is being caused because of the monster being summoned.  You just can't activate it after a Counter Trap was activated.

Say you are playing against a burn deck.  There are 9 monsters on the field already and your opponent tries to summon another.  You play Bottomless Trap Hole, then your opponent plays Just Desserts.  You want to prevent the damage so you play Torrential Tribute to destroy all the monsters.  Torrential will destroy all the monsters and the rest of the cards in the chain will fizzle out as there are no more monsters on the field to activate them.

  2. No. The summoning of a monster has no spell speed and thus cannot be chained to. Torrential Tribute can be activated when your opponent hands priority over to you after the monster is in play. Remember that chains resolve backwards, so whatever was done last resolves first. Even if it were possible to chain TT to a Spell or Trap card it would resolve before whatever it was chained to.

  3. ok as long is a monster is is summoned destroy all monsters on the field means that regardless as how the monster is summoned (chain, special summon, ritual summon) it doesnt matter you still destroy all monsters
