Question:

Yu-Gi-Oh conundrum.... can it be done and what happens?

So recently i was dualing a friend and a situation came up where we were uncertain of the outcome. Both of us play Yu-Gi-Oh avidly, so we would really like to know the answer.

I had 3 monsters on my side of the field, my friend had one facedown card. I attacked with one of my monsters, and she activated a quick-play spell card from her spell and trap card zone. It was Mystic Wok, and the card description says [Tribute 1 monster. Select either it's ATK or DEF and gain that many life points]. Needless to say, she chose her facedown monster to tribute and gain from.

So here I have a few questions about it. Can a quick play spell card be activated after an attack has been declared? The card doesn't say to negate the attack, so what happens when her monster is suddenly gone, does the attack hit her lifepoints directly?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

  1. yes u can activate a quick spell in response to an attack, she would gain those life points as it is a chain to the attack, then the monster would be destroyed so you would get a replay of the attack and get to attack directly. Hope that helps

  2. Yes, you are allowed to activate a Quick-Play Spell after an attack has been declared. The rules state that, if the number of monsters your opponent controls changes after you declare an attack, a Replay occurs. That means you are allowed to continue to attack, or choose not to attack at all. If your friend chose to Tribute the only monster she had, you would be able to declare a Replay and use that attack as a direct attack on your opponent. Hope this helps!

  3. yah ya can do that with the quick-play spell as for the attack sins it's target disapeard so the attack just stops!! ^_^

  4. quick-play spells and traps can be activated when the opponent declares an attack.

since your opponent tribute her monster, a replay occurs. a replay comes up when the number of monsters on your opponent's field changes or if there is a different monster from the monster you first attack. you can choose whether to attack again or not after a replay. so you can attack her life points directly
