Yu-GiOh! New Banned List cripples ALL structure Decks, what do I do?

I was getting my dad into Yu-Gi-Oh! Today, I was going to give him a structure deck to tweak (once I teach him how the game works and all) but I had to first print out the new and dreaded by most BANNED list to see what I could and couldn't use. I looked through and most of the most important cards in my structure decks: SDY, SYE, SDRL, SKE, SD8, SD09 are banned. Rise of the Dragon Lords (SDRL) REVOLVES around premature burial and call of the haunted! Taking the banned cards out of Yugi Evolution Structure (SYE), cripples the deck beyond belief because 5, I repeat 5 of the most important cards are banned. What do I do? Can someone help me out with what deck I could make for my dad, a beginner with no clue, that would help him have half a chance and my homemade deck I've been using for 2yrs no problems and really powerful also revolves around sending powerful cards from deck to Graveyard and using Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted to bring them out. Someone, please tell me cards like birthrite that will substitute for these banned cards but work on effect monsters too. So I need a random pretty good deck for my dad and here's my deck. I have a tournament Thursday so I need some help fixing it, I already took Call of the Haunted out and subbed Birthrite, but something better would be appreciated, PLEASE help me fix it.

Oh, my statagy usually is bringing out the highest 4 stars and equipping them with axe of despair, etc to beef them up and as I said, sending to the graveyard and summoning no tributes. I know the deck is all over the place so Tuning would help as well.

  1. I'm not gonna down your deck or your play style since I respect the fact that your original deck is still going strong. Unfortunately, though I've had my dragon deck since the game began I still added newer things to it. You should get him the Dark Emperor starter deck, since its already built to play and easy to use. This will also be cheap.

  2. I agree with the first person.  Just buy 2 5D's Starter decks and play your dad with those.  Another solution is that when playing against your dad, just don't use the banned list.  Unless he plans on entering tournaments with you, then it shouldn't matter whether or not what you are playing against each other.  The banned list is only in effect for tournament players, not friends and families playing with one another.  You can play using the Traditional list.  All the banned cards are limited to one and the rest is basically the same.

As for your deck, the other guy is also right in the fact that you are way behind the times with your deck.  I don't know what part of the world you are playing in, but that deck wouldn't stand any chance in an actual tournament where I am.  The deck isn't bad though, but there's no real strategy except getting big monsters out quick to beat your opponent, which doesn't work anymore in the new metagame.  I mean Man-Eater Bug hasn't been used since the first year Yugioh was released.  Instead of Man-Eater Bug, you should try using 3 Apprentice Magician with 3 Old Vindictive Magician.  This way you'll still have Man-Eater's effect and have the Apprentice's to search him out.  It'll give you better control over your opponents field.  To fix your Premature/Call of the Haunted problem, try to switch your strategy up a bit.  Instead of sending stuff to the graveyard and reborning it, you can play 3 Mausoleum of the Emperor and summon them from your hand without any tributes.  However, this'll cost you alot of lifepoints to play.  That's why you play 3 Nimble Momonga and 2 or 3 Mystic Wok, which is a fantastic card in this kind of strategy as it is a Quickplay Spell and can be used in response to Spells or Traps that would destroy your big monsters AND will increase your lifepoints at the same time.  Instead of using 3 Magic Jammer, see if you can get 3 Solemn Judgment or even 3 Dark Bribe.  You can even try using 3 Cold Wave as pretty good substitutes.  They will help you to get your big attacks through without having to worry about your opponents Traps or Quickplays.  Also monster effects will destroy your deck so you should try using 3 Divine Wrath or cards like Pulling the Rug will help you out alot.  Also thought you should know that Cyber Dragon is limited to one, so you will have to take him out.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Just get him the 5D starter deck. It has the most up to date rulebook and has 3 Synchros in it. The deck sucks but its good for beginners. Buy one for yourself to play against him. Getting beat by a built up deck when you're using a Starter is really demoralizing.

Your deck is about 4 1/2 years behind the times. When YGO first came out decks like yours were on top but once themes like Gravekeeper's or Chaos came out they became obsolete. All I can tell you is that you need to start looking at newer, more effective decks. I'm partial to Warrior decks. They've been good since YGO came out and have never been significantly hit by the banned list(Stratos at 1 sort of hurts though).
