Yu Po Pai and Chi Ya Cheng ease into the women’s singles main round of Australian Open GP Gold
Chinese Taipei’s Yu Po Pai and Chi Ya Cheng moved into the women’s singles main round of the Australian Open GP Gold 2011, in Melbourne, on Tuesday, April 5. Po Pai won her match against Claudia Rivero of Peru in straight games, whereas Chi Cheng proved
her worth against Milicent Wiranto of Indonesia in a one-sided two-set match that took 33 minutes.
Po Pai faced no resistance from Claudia in the first set of the match. She started the game in a composed manner by picking the bird very early. Her quick reflexes and sharp points kept Claudia trailing far behind. Po Pai made no mistake in the set and finished
it up by a stunning difference of 21-5, in just 8 minutes.
Claudia played well in the starting points of the second set and leveled the score at 7-7. Po Pai occupied the driving seat again and established an 11-7 lead at the end of the opening part of the second set. After the one-minute interval, Po Pai remained
focused and won the second set with a big margin of 21-12, spending just 12 minutes in the court.
In another match, Chi Cheng thrashed Milicent in an even more impressive fashion by playing close to perfect Badminton. In the first set, both ladies remained close till 5-5. That's where Chi Cheng geared up the pace of the game and scored six points in
a row to make it an 11-5 lead. After the one-minute break, Milicent tried to catch the speed of the opponent but lost her control and threw away many points by playing negative strokes. Chi Cheng won the first set in 17 minutes with a 21-12 score on the board.
Milicent played well in the second set and took a slight lead of 7-5. But again Chi Cheng took control of the game by increasing her speed and started to dictate the pace of the rallies. She was leading by an 11-6 margin in the end of the first half of the
set. After the break, Chi Cheng continued her winning performance till the end of the second set and won it by a clear difference of 21-12 in 16 minutes.
