Yu Po Pai ousts Jiayuan Chen to advance into Women’s Singles quarter-final at Chinese Taipei Open
Chinese Taipei’s emerging player Yu Po Pai showed a strong character on court and advanced into Women’s Singles quarter-final after defeating Singapore’s Jiayuan Chen in round-of-16 contest at Yonex Chinese Taipei Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Chinese Taipei,
on Thursday, October 4.
The in-form Yu Po, who remained impressive in all matches in this home tournament, continued her winning run and overpowered her talented Singaporean challenger in a convincing way.
Yu Po worked really hard in opening set and took it with a narrow margin but she remained in complete control in the following set and finished up the match in straight games with a reasonable margin in just 32 minutes.
On the other hand, Jiayuan showed a good performance but failed to overpower her local opponent on court and eventually crashed out at the pre-quarter-final contest without winning any set.
In the first game, both shuttlers played with precision and remained close on score board at the starting rallies.
The local shuttler tried her best to take lead but failed to live up to expectations and remained struggling in getting an upper hand.
In the meanwhile, Jiayuan played with confidence and managed a comfortable lead until the end of opening half by reaching at 11-7.
After the mid-game break, Yu Po geared up her speed and made the score equal until 13-13.
She continued playing well and also managed a reasonable lead but failed to keep the distance on score board as her opponent played flawless badminton and levelled the score at18-18.
At this crucial stage, Yu Po elevated her level of play with and showed an impressive speed and precision which helped her to snatch the first game with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the following set, Yu Po again remained struggling in the opening half as she could not stop her opponent from setting up an 11-7 lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Yu Po changed her tactics and played with aggression which helped her to end up the domination of her rival and managed to win the set with a 21-17 score on the board.
Yu Po won this pre-quarter-final battle in just 32 minutes with a reasonable difference of 21-19 and 21-17.
