Yu Sun overwhelms Busanan Ongbumrungpan in title match of 2012 Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold
China’s spirited shuttler Yu Sun performed beyond expectations and earned the top spot on the victory stand of Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold on December 2, 2012.
This Women’s Singles title match put her against Busanan Ongbumrungpan of Thailand and she delivered a stunner in this 42-minute tussle.
The Chinese campaigner placed a favourable margin of 21-19 and 21-8 to raise the trophy in this GP Gold event.
Yu Sun, who was underrated earlier in this tournament, proved her worth with a splendid straight-set win.
She laid the foundation of her dominance by clinching first match point and then capitalised this advantage to oust her opponent.
Meanwhile, it was sheer disappointment for Thai badminton lovers as their national shuttler failed to claim even a single match point and surrendered tamely.
First sign of trouble came for Busanan when she let many valuable points slip from her hands in the opening game and could not make amends later in the game.
Initially, she was in strong position with a decent total of 4-1 and this initial lead helped her to keep the opposing shuttler at the lower end in next couple of rallies.
Busanan played with great control and finished the first half of the set with a respectable margin of 11.
Unexpectedly, she lost this touch in later of the game and provided her challenger a golden opportunity to come back.
The young but talented Chinese player made the best out of this situation and stormed back with a strong reply.
At first, she levelled the score at 15-15 and then swept the table with a staggering knock of 21-19.
Next game had nothing to entertain the local crowd as Yu Sun made it a one-sided affair. She tipped the scale in her favour immediately in the beginning and dominated the overall pace of the rallies until the last shot was splayed.
She piled up an indomitable figure of 11 before the one-minute break and capitalised this initial advantage after the interval.
Yu Sun played with great conviction and bagged ten out of ending twelve points to wrap this showdown in just two games.
She placed 21-8 score and earned the right to raise Women’s Singles trophy in this prestigious tournament.
