Yu-gi-oh flip effects?

If a monster is face down and it is attacked will the flip effect activate?

Example.. Man-eater Bug is face down and Blue-eyes white dragon attacks it. Does the effect of Man-eater bug activate.

Generally Yes.

except when the monster has an effect that will destroy face down monsters before they get flipped. example: Mystic swordsmen level 2

Yes, when monster are in face down defense and are attacked, whether or not the attack fails or succeeds the card should flip up and the effect activates. Magic and traps card, as well as monster effects may be able to prevent this but otherwise yeah it does flip.

Of course, that is one of few ways that the effect actually activates.

First way is actually flip it from set to face-up attack mode.

the other is it being attacked while set.

the final is by card effects, swords of revealing light and what-not.

flip effects do not activate if your set monster is destroyed with a card effect, like torrential tribute.
