so this is wat happened we were dueling he had 150 life points left i had around 5000 he had cyber dragon prime material dragon and archined fiend soilder on the field i only had a marshmallon so it was my turn i tributitued my marshmallon and summoned ciaus the shadow monarch he's effect is when this card is tributed summoned remove from play 1 card on the field if it is a dark monster your oppenent loses 1000 life points so i removed my ciaus from play because its dark which would make him lose but his prime material dragon's effect is 'when a cards effect to destroy monster(s) on the field is activeated you can send 1 card from your hand to the graveyard to negate the activation and destroy the card so will ciaus's effect still work or is his effect treated as desrtroying still? also if ciaus's effect is treated as destroying then that means my sacred phenoix of nepthysis would come back if someone used bottomless on it right? plz help im confused

  1. Okay, this is a very simple question to answer, "Remove from play" is just remove from play, the card is NOT destroyed, so if you used Caius' effect on himself, that is okay, that is a very good trick and a very creative way on using his effect and by doing that, you officially won that duel of yours, and Prime Material Dragon's effect was totally useless at that time. I can understand the confusion between the two of you. The same goes for Bottomless Trap Hole, your Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys would not be destroyed, just removed from, so its effect will not activate, trust me, I have one myself. I hope that helps.

  2. removing from play is NOT destroying unless like in bottomless, it says destroy it, but no, you can't bring back nepthys because bottomless says destroy, and remove from play. that keeps you from bringing back nephthys and you're friend deffinately loses

  3. No, removing from play is not the same as destroying. There are cards, like Bottomless Trap Hole, that say to destroy the monster and remove it from play. So to answer your other question, yes, BTH destroys, Cauis does not, but BTH won't trigger the Phoenix's effect since the Phoenix has to be in the graveyard during the standby phase in order to come back.

  4. this is a very tricky part of the game for sure

i play with macro monarch deck and my best friend plays with a crystal beast deck(if you know about crystal beasts they rely on being destroy...removing is what kills them)  so i know the difference between remove and destroy

caius's effect (who i run 3 of) says "remove from play one card on the field" so in turn you are not destroying anything...same thing goes for the dd assailant and dd warrior and dd warrior lady..the card never says destroy and remove(like bottomless trap hole says)

prime material cant use its effect bc you are not destroying a monster and you win the duel bc of the 1000 damage from removing a dark monster aka caius(which is a great combo btw lol)

and no the sacred pheniox would not come back bc the errata says it has to be in the graveyard

    hope this helps =)

  5. no no removing fom play is no where near distroying nu uh it can't be distroyed if it's in the graveyard nope your friend's wrong totally WRONG he looses
