YuGiOh - Been out of the game for two years, whats new?

Hey, everyone. Over two years ago in early 2006, I stopped playing YuGiOh after a good two years of play. I sold off all my cards except my best deck (A Legendary Ocean/Levia-Dragon combo) and never looked back.

Well, the other day I was digging through my closet looking for something and I came across my old deck. So, I decided to try and get back into the game.

My biggest question is, if anyone can answer, is the game any different than what it was like before? Any major rule changes and such?

Well plenty has changed. The metagame has changed a h**l of a lot! Gladiator Beasts, Six Samurai, Dark Armed Dragon and Monarchs have taken the metagame by storm.

Legendary Ocean Decks in my opinion are brilliant but they have never really taken place in metagame. I'm not sure if you had quitted at the time when Cyber Dragon is released but it is one of the most popular cards today! Also, the banned list has changed. Monster Reborn in now playable in decks!

No major rules had changed except for the new banned list. But there are new types of monsters called Gemini which are treated as normal monsters when summon and you can summon them again e.g. Turn one: Summon gemini monster.

Turn two: Waste summon of turn to give gemini monster effect.

And yeah. You have missed out on quite a lot but nothing really major.

The rules are still the same, but the Forbidden and Limited card list has been drastically updated, although Monster Reborn is not forbidden anymore : | . I recommend going to http://www.yugioh-card.com and looking around there. They have the latest Forbidden/Limited card list as well as FAQs and individual card rulings. You can also check out the new cards and decks that have come out.

Yeah, there ain't much major changes to the game, apart from the new ban list and such. There are now many more cards too, and there are now two new types of monsters.

One new type of monster is called a Gemini monster, which is somewhat like an effect monster, who's effect only activates when you summon him again, when he's already on the field.

The there's the Tuner monster, which can tune up another monster to perform a synchro summon, as long as the Tuner monster, and the monster being tuned's levels add up to the Synchro Monster being summoned.

The major thing that has changed in the new meta is OTK.

Everyone is looking for the fastest way to annhilate there opponets.

The 3 Really big OTK decks right now are Gladiator Beasts, Dark Armed Dragon and Lightsworn.

Gladiators Assault - Heraklinos

Phantom Darkness- Dark Armed Dragon

Light of Destruction- Judgement Dragon

All three of these decks focus around these 3 cards mainly to deliver your opponet an OTK.

If your looking to JUMP back into the Meta cheap your best bet is to hop on ebay and pick you up the following big boys.

3x Grandmaster of the Six Samurai

3x Great Shogun Shien

1x Enishi Shiens Chancelor

3x Solemn Judgements

3x Dark Bribes

1x Mirror Force

Thats the core foundation of a 6 Samurai deck. From a competition stand point there still viable. Unfortunately people are forsaken the builds for the more elaborate and pretty Dark Arms and Jugements. I myself just sold my 3X Dark Arms and Crush Card Virus because UDE released an emergency ban list that really killed the Dark Arm Return Meta Build.....

Alot of people will argue with me and thats fine. But 6 Samurais WORK...they move just as fast as Lightsworn and Dark Arm. The biggest thing to remember is hold those SOlemn Judgements for the big boys like Judgement and Dark Armed....and say see ya later.
