Yuekun Chen intercepts R. M. V. Gurusaidutt en route to final round of 2012 Macau Open
China’s budding shuttler Yuekun Chen continued his successful run in the Men’s Singles event of Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold and powered his way to the final round on December 1, 2012.
He cast out R. M. V. Gurusaidutt of India in a 38-minute tussle which lasted just two games before ending with 21-16 and 21-17 margin.
This semi-final match was played at the local badminton complex of Macau and a decent number of spectators gathered to support both shuttlers.
The Chinese campaigner set the foundation of his supremacy straight away in the first set and then transformed this 1-0 lead into a straight-set win.
On the other hand, Gurusaidutt could not employ his brilliance in the game and bid farewell to this GP Gold event in a woeful manner.
In the opening game, Yuekun Chen played cautiously in the establishing rallies and allowed his challenger to stay close on the points table.
Both contenders made every effort to gain an early advantage but they failed to establish a permanent lead.
Initially, the Indian shuttler bagged a few consecutive points but he could not go with the same flow in the next couple of rallies.
Gurusaidutt frittered away his effort before the interval and finished the first half of the set with a tight margin of 11-10.
However, later part of the game proved a dead contest as Yuekun Chen showed a transformed character and swept the table with a favourable score position of 21-16.
The following game was filled with lot of drama as both contenders strived hard to oust their opponent.
The Chinese player was looking to seal a straight-set victory whereas Gurusaidutt was trying to avoid a woeful exit. They challenged each other in all areas of the game and made this segment a memorable contest.
Initially, Yuekun Chen was in a strong position to pocket this crucial match point easily but then the Indian shuttler subjected him to a tough trial.
Gurusaidutt remained equal until 13-13 total but then he made some costly mistakes which ultimately led him to a 17-21 defeat.
With such an impressive result, Yuekun Chen marched into the final round where he will be up against his compatriot shuttler Gao Huan.
