Yuichi Sugita cripples Divij Sharan to journey into the second round – Seoul Challenger 2012 CH
Sixth seeded Japanese, Yuichi Sugita, cripples the Indian rival, Divij Sharan, in the round one of the Samsung Securities Cup Challenger held at courts of Deco Turf in Seoul, Korea. He jolted down his three set win 6-2, 5-7, 6-4
against his senior and acquired a reasonable spot in the next round of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Series on Tuesday.
Ranked 135th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Sugita unveiled his true colours ever since he stepped on the courts of Korea and engraved his triumph two hours and 12 minutes. They are battling against
one another for the first time and the Japanese booked a lead against the Indian.
The opening set displayed shocking results, as the Indian senior cashed his challenger’s initial serve and drew the first blood early. He pocketed away the first two games without facing any hindrance and marked a 2-0 score by
the end of the second game. However, he proved to be of no match against his rival, who dissolved his serve in the third game and brought the score line to 2-2. This completely crumpled Sharan’s confidence and he was unable to take action. The Japanese participant
grabbed the opportunity and skilfully bagged all the games without facing any real challenge. Eventually, Sugita cashed his challengers serve in the seventh game, stealing the show with a 6-2 lead.
The second set proved very competitive and the two players preserved their serves throughout. The 24-year-old, Sugita, maintained his intensity but faced many barriers as the scores line levelled after every alternate game. The
two brushed each other off and none of them was successful to achieve their desired serve. Fortunately, the left-hander Indian proved his brilliance and cashed away the only serve break in the 12th game, terminating the set with a 7-5 lead.
In the final set, the 26-year-old, Sharan fought hard to sustain his former pace but was not equal to the Japanese contender's strength. Sugita secured his desired lead by cashing away his competitors serve in the seventh game
and engraved a 4-3 lead then. Despite of the Indians losing edge, he struggled and after that point, he swiped the set without facing any barrier. The higher ranked Japanese contender converted the last two games to his plus and concluded the match with a
6-4 win.
