Yuka Katou excels in Women’s 100m butterfly semi-finals: Day one - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Yuka Katou excelled in semi-finals of Women’s 100m butterfly on first day of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Monday, April 2.
Katou devastated hopes of her challengers in the double lap butterfly event and earned her way into the final round as top fastest swimmer.
With her immaculate efforts, she remained considerably faster from her subsequent rival and appeared on the finishing end by posting a time of 58.23 seconds.
Her smothering effort remained 0.75 seconds ahead of Tomoyo Fukuda, who entered the final round as second best swimmer with an effort of 58.98 seconds.
She was followed by Nao Kobayashi, who was just 0.05 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and transpired on the finishing end as third qualifying swimmer with the timing of 59.03 seconds.
The fourth best spot of the event was obtained by Rino Hosoda, who stayed 0.38 seconds slower from her former finisher and clocked an effort of 59.41 seconds for fourth position.
The fifth spot of the event was obtained by Yai Watanabe, who completed her race in a time of 59.86 seconds to qualify for the playoff.
Next were the semi-finals of Men’s 100m breaststroke, where Kosuke Kitajima sustained his top spot and hit the wall with an effort of 59.31 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort was trailed by Ryo Tateishi, who remained nearly 0.70 seconds slower from him and ended his race with the timing of 1 minute and 00.04 seconds to enter the final.
Tateishi, who sustained his second best qualification effort, was chased by Hiromasa Sakimoto, who stayed 0.92 seconds behind and produced an effort of 1 minute and 00.96 seconds.
He was followed by Akihiro Yamaguchi, who clinched fourth qualification spot of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.99 seconds. Daiki Sakata transpired as the fifth best qualifying swimmer of the discipline as he posted a time of 1 minute and 01.10 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner while the championship will end on April 8 after the completion of all events.
