Yuka Katou pockets Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day three – 2012 Japan Open, Tokyo
Yuka Katou pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day three of the 2012 Japan Open in Tokyo on Sunday, May 27.
Katou faced tough competition from her strongest opponent, Natsumi Hoshi, throughout the event but with her fascinating efforts, she sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
With her impeccable efforts, she stayed one stroke ahead of her opponent and tapped the wall for gold medal with the timing of 58.43 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Natsumi Hoshi, who was only 0.14 seconds apart and secured second position of the discipline by reporting a time of 58.57 seconds.
Hoshi was chased by Nao Kobayashi, who remained 0.51 seconds apart and hit the finishing blockade for bronze medal with the timing of 59.08 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Rino Hosoda, who secured fourth position of the discipline by clocking an effort of 59.56 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Hiroko Sugino, who stayed 0.22 seconds slower and clocked a time of 59.78 seconds.
Next was the playoff of Men’s 100m butterfly, where Hirofumi Ikebata remained dominant over his opponents and secured the crown of the discipline by posting a time of 52.41 seconds.
Ikebata was chased by Takeshi Matsuda, who stayed 0.07 seconds slower and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal with an effort of 52.48 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Takurou Fujii, who stayed 0.30 seconds apart and earned bronze medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 52.78 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Yuuki Kobori, who stayed 0.14 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 52.92 seconds.
With his exhausting efforts, Kobori remained just a touch ahead of Ryo Takayasu, who claimed fifth fastest spot of the discipline by producing a time of 52.94 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship came to an end after the completion of all scheduled events in Men and Women’s corner whereas the position holders received medals and accolades for their gruelling efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
