Yuka Katou pockets Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day two - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Yuka Katou pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on second day of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, April 3.
Katou proved her ascendancy over her challengers by finishing her swim in first place. With her impeccable effort, she faced no trouble in occupying the top of podium for gold medal.
She stayed nearly one body length ahead of her challengers throughout the double lap discipline. With her continuous efforts, she not only captured gold medal of the event but she also improved the championship mark of butterfly discipline.
With her alluring efforts, Katou clocked a time of 57.77 seconds to clinch gold medal. Her effort remained 0.03 seconds faster from the previous mark of 57.80 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by her compatriot, Nao Kobayashi, who stayed almost 0.90 seconds behind and hit the finishing end with an effort of 58.61 seconds for silver medal.
The silver medallist was chased by Tomoyo Fukuda, who stayed just 0.27 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing swimmer and settled on the victory stand for bronze medal by posting a time of 58.88 seconds.
Fukuda was trailed by Rino Hosoda, who stayed 0.13 seconds slower and hit the wall with the timing of 59.01 seconds for fourth position.
Hosoda was followed by Yai Watanabe, who remained 0.74 seconds behind and completed her race in a time of 59.75 seconds for fifth position.
The sixth position of the discipline was secured by Hiroko Sugino, who was 0.34 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 00.09 seconds. Sugino enjoyed an advantage of 0.34 seconds over Kei Hoshiba, who proved her eligibility for the seventh best
qualification spot of the race by posting a time of 1 minute and 00.43 seconds.
The last spot of the race was obtained by Maho Takiguchi, who clocked an effort of 1 minute and 01.01 seconds for eighth position.
The session came to an end after the forceful efforts of all finalists in their main event whereas the podium finishers received a huge round of applause from the audience at the medal ceremony of the championship.
