Yuki Bhambri wins first round match against Karol Beck – Chennai Open 2012
On January 2, 2012, the first round men’s singles competition of the Chennai Open 2012 was held between India’s Yuki Bhambri and Slovakian Karol Beck.
The 19-year-old Indian fought well in front of his home crowd and won the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
As the first set began, both could not score an ace. Bhambri’s service games kept him moving ahead of Beck as he maintained a 63% first serve winning ratio and Beck could only manage to have a 50% rate. Since the start of the first set, Bhambri overshadowed
Beck with his serves. The Indian won eight out of 12 points from his first serve. Beck was doing all in his power to get some edge in the match but all his efforts went in vain. The Slovakian could only win 7 out of 14 points from his first serve. This created
some difficulties for Beck for he needed to win games in order to stay in the match.
In terms of second set points, Bhambri was again way ahead as he won five out of seven points with his second serve. Although his second serve points had reduced when compared t his first serve points yet they were enough to keep him in lead as Beck was
still behind. The Indian player was also getting all the leverage he could from his home ground and from his crowd support. He showed a decent run with the racquet and used the tennis court accordingly.
With the second set in play, both players scored an ace. The Indian, ranked at number 345th in the world, won 63% points from his first serve while Beck maintained a ratio of 56%. Bhambri was in the lead since the second set began as this was evident from
his service games. He won 14 out of 17 points from his first serve and four out of 10 points from his second serve. Beck, on the other hand, won eight out of 19 points from his first serve and eight of 15 points from his second serve.
Throughout the match the Indian did not give any room for Beck to score points. The Indian used the home ground advantage pretty well as he played all of his shots with confidence. Beck could not get any edge into the match for Bhambri was continuously playing
on the offensive. Beck was hoping to win this match against a much younger opponent but Bhambri secured an impressive win by winning the second set 6-3.
