Yulia Zapolskaya trounces Rezie Timmermans in quarter-final encounter of European Universities Games
Russia’s Yulia Zapolskaya continued her tremendous run and reached into Women’s Singles semi-final as she trounced her lower ranked rival Rezie Timmermans of Netherlands in quarter-final encounter at the European Universities Games-Badminton Individual Tournament
in Spain, on Monday, July 16.
The third seeded Yulia, who has been delivering fabulous performance in all matches in the championship, remained consistent in her killing run as she ruthlessly crushed Rezie in a lopsided fashion.
The higher ranked Yulia had to utilise all of her skills in opening set of the battle but it was a smooth ride for her in the following game and she registered a spectacular victory over her un-seeded Dutch opponent in straight sets.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Rezie could not play her normal game against her Russian opponent. She lost her focus and also became slow on court and eventually crashed out in just 30 minutes without showing her brilliance.
In the opening set, it was the Dutch shuttler who proved a tough nut to crack for her higher ranked opponent as she played fast and aggressive game and did not let Yulia to set up an early lead.
In the meanwhile, the third seeded Russian lady could not play aggressive game in opening rallies and also remained unable to set up a comfortable lead until the one-minute break.
After taking rest for 60 seconds, Yulia played well at net and also pushed her rival on back foot by employing powerful shots.
The Russian was in full swing in the ending phase of opening game and she managed to win it with a dramatic 21-19 score on the board.
In the second game, Yulia was everywhere as she did not spare any gap for her lower ranked opponent and easily managed an incredible lead on the score board until the end of opening half.
After the break, the Russian shuttler continued showing her tremendous skills without showing any sign of fatigue and eventually clinched the set with a one-sided score of 21-8.
Yulia won this Women’s Singles quarter-final showdown in just 30 minutes with an impressive margin of 21-19 and 21-8.
