Yummy Vegetarian foods for the new vegetarian ?

I've recently become a vegetarian, and I have no clue really of what to eat. I know that lettuce is okay, but if you have any advice it would be appriciated. I'm 14 if that helps.

  1. Tofu is food made from fermented soybeans, it is not good to by itself really, you can make a lot of things with it though!

    Good food starters:

    Tofu - can be made into almost anything, and there are a lot of varieties, tofu scramble, tofu nuggets, tofu steak, grilled or breaded tofu, tofu wrapped in seaweed, tofu ribs, etc.

    Tempeh - fermented soybean cake, can be cooked as in tempeh bacon great for sandwiches!

    Seitan - Wheat gluten, resembles meat, can be made into almost any meat substitute, seitan BBQ ribs are very good.

    TVP - Texterized vegetable protein, resembles crumbled beef when cooked, can be made as taco filler, sloppy joes, chili, etc.

    Beans - A lot of varieties of beans out there with very good nutrients. Make beans with rice or make a bean burger.

    Quinoa - A very high nutrient which can be made with many things, good to eat with vegetables and beans.

    Vegetables - When you go veg you rediscover vegetables! Search for some great veggie recipes!

  2. I really think you need to research more. So that vegetarianism would be a lot easier for you. What type of vegetarian are you, by the way? There are 4 types of vegetarian. Lacto vegetarians don't eat meat and eggs but eat milk products like milk and cheese. Ovo vegetarian doesn't eat meat and don't include milk products but eat eggs. Lacto-ovo vegetarians don't eat meat but include milk products and eggs in their diet (this is by far the easiest). Lastly, Vegans doesn't eat meat and all products that comes from the animals like honey, gelatin, marshmallows etc.

    Common food for vegetarians: Soy products, Textured Vegetable Protein, Soy milk, veggies, fruits, rice, beans, NUTS, legumes, bread (no meat), tofu, quinoa

    Tofu is made from soya beans. They contain a good amount of protein. About the taste, its a bit bland but it really absorbs the flavor of the spices you incorporate with it. Some people eat tofu by itself (gross) but alot prefer to cook it and make it a meat substitute.

There are sooo many foods for you to eat and if you want something really yummy to try out go to chipotle get a burrito with rice veggies beans lettece salsa mild has chunks of tomatos and cheese there cheese is made of veggie proteins and chips and gucamole will fill you up and with not an ounce of meat. veggie burgers are yummy soyjoy bars for snacks stir fry no meat added noodles big bowl has a lot of noodle dishes and you can add tofu get a veggie cook book you can check them out of the library or google veggie recipes and resturents online whole foods stores are a great way to get started  

  5. Tofu is something made from beans, you can easily find anywhere in the market.

    Choose semi hard tofu ones..

    (smell it if you like or not..some smell really bad)

    Fried in veggie oil until outer gets crispy.

    Prepare the sauce

    Tomato ketchup 1 cup

    Cucumber  chopped square1 cup

    Salt 1 tea spoon

    Pine apple (canned or fresh any you can find) half cup

    1 table spoon of veggie oil

    1 tea spoon of sugar

    GArlic 1 tea spoon

    onion chopped 1 cup

    fresh tomato half cup

    half cup of water

    HEat the oil in flying  pan. thorw garlic in with onion stir fry till you smell both.

    Throw everything in (not tofu) and pour water in .wait till it boil then

    prepare your tofu in the plate and pour the sauce over your tofu.

    eat with rice :)

You became a vegetarian and have no idea what to eat?  Surely meat was not the only thing you ever ate.  You need to do your research and educate yourself.  Google vegetarian nutrition and vegetarian food pyramid.  There are several great books for the teen vegetarian available too.  Check out Vegetables Rock!,  A Teens guide to going vegetarian and The Teens vegetarian cookbook.  We eat a LOT more than lettuce.

  7. if you go to the library you can find some great books for cooking but her is one of my favorites.

    lay a tortillaon a greased baking sheet. but some cooked black beans onit an spread them out evenly on the tortilla, place chopped onions, tomatoes, thawed frozed spinich and top with another totilla.  place a few slices of pepperjack chease on top and bake on 325 for 10-15 minutes, then turn the oven to broil so you can brown the topp until golden brown.  serve with fresh lettuce and sour cream and salsa.  it is very filling.

  8. If you have a Whole Foods store near you, they'd be happy to give you suggestions.  Veggie Burgers are great, soy products are your best bet.  Just start paying attention to labels, that way, you can't go wrong!

    I am also Veg. since last 20 years. There are every thing and lot more , you will surprise. If you cook your self , you can prepare amazing receipies with material around you. My best wishes to join Veg.

  10. at wal-mart theres a brand called morning star in green boxes in the frozen food section theres all sorts of thing but i really like the fake chikn nuggets and fake sausage patties they also sell this at h-e-b
