Yun Hao claims Men's 1500m freestyle gold: Day two – 2011 Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Yun Hao of China claimed the title of Men's 1500m freestyle final by overwhelming efforts of his competitors on second day of the 2011 Swimming World Cup in Beijing on Wednesday, November 9.
Beijing is the second last stop of seven-stage World Cup series, organised by the international aquatics sport governing body, Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA).
The 26-year-old Hao presented his true skills in the 60-lap event. The Chinese veteran faced strong competition from his team-member Jun Dai, who took charge of the event in the start.
Dai emerged as the top contender for gold medal in the start of the race, where he ended his initial 100 meters in a time of 56.58 seconds. With his fastest timing, he remained 0.19 seconds ahead of Hao, who covered the same distance in 56.77 seconds.
The 21-year-old Dai continued his smothering efforts in the first half of the 1500m event, where he completed the first half in a time of 7 minutes and 24.51 seconds. He remained 0.96 seconds ahead of his team-member, who clocked a time of 7 minutes and
25.47 seconds for the same distance.
The duo continued their thrilling efforts in the second half, where Hao tried his best to overwhelm his competitor for the top spot but failed to do so until the 1300 meters of the swim.
With the help of his magnificent stroke and powerful tumbles, Hao managed to earn a marginal lead over Dai in the next round, where he clocked a time of 13 minutes and 16.29 seconds to complete 1350 meters of the swim.
Hao picked up his space in the remaining laps of the race and kept on extending his lead over his rival. His persistent efforts enabled him to gain a lead of almost 3 seconds over his competitor and he posted a time of 14 minutes and 40.15 seconds for gold
medal.
In the meantime, Dai reported a time of 14 minutes and 42.97 seconds for silver medal. She was trailed by Guixu Zhong of China, who submitted an effort of 15 minutes and 12.08 seconds for bronze medal.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all scheduled events.
