Yunel Escobar drives in five runs as Toronto Blue Jays rout New York Yankees 8-5 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays crushed the New York Yankees 8-5 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday, August 29 in the finale of their three match series.
Blue Jays will be very excited about their victory. After going through all sorts of trouble over the last few weeks, Manager John Farrell was expecting his team to show what they are made of and that is exactly what the Blue Jays did on Wednesday to secure
a rare series sweep at Yankee Stadium.
Blue Jays’ offence, in particular, should be given credit for showing excellent hitting abilities against one of the best pitching rotations in the American League. It will be interesting to see if Farrell and company can maintain their terrific form to
build on some much needed confidence.
After New York took an early 2-0 lead, Edwin Encarnacion singled to left in the third inning to put Blue Jays on the board. Adam Lind and Yunel Escobar made the most of available opportunities to help the Blue Jays come back from behind for a 3-2 lead.
"At the time of the birth he was a little frustrated with how he was performing, but that three-day break allowed him to relax and come back with a more positive mindset," Jose Bautista said, translating for Escobar.
Escobar had an impressive outing as he drove in five runs including a two run home-run to left in the sixth and Jeff Mathis sacrificed to third to extend Toronto’s lead to 6-4. Starting pitcher J.A. Happ looked a bit out of sorts as he gave up four hits
and four runs in just five innings. Nonetheless, he grabbed his third win of the season.
"He feels like anything positive that happens to the club is going to be welcome right now," Escobar said. "He feels like winning a series on the road against a club like the Yankees that's definitely a positive and he hopes it can help bring up team morale
a little bit."
Relief pitchers Steve Delabar, Aaron Loup and Casey Janssen combined to pitch three scoreless innings to ensure their team reach home safely.
