Yunel Escobar shines as Toronto Blue Jays beat Chicago White Sox, 4-2 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays’ short-stop, Yunel Escobar was impressive with the bat as he hit one RBI and went 2-for-5 in the Jays’ 4-2 win against the Chicago White Sox at Rogers Centre, Toronto, on May 27.
The Jays’ Manager, John Farrell was excited with this victory. Speaking to reporters, he said, “We needed this one, for sure.”
The Jays initiated their first inning pretty well as the batters added one run to get a 1-0 lead. Juan Rivera doubled to deep left-field and Escobar scored a single run. Jose Bautista occupied the third base in no time. The second inning passed without a
score for both sides. In the very next inning, the White Sox tied the game 1-all when Alexei Ramirez hit a sacrifice bunt to left-field and Juan Pierre posted one run.
During the fourth inning, Aaron Hill scored a run on the drive of Rajai Davis off the deep centre-field and led off the Jays, 2-1. In the fifth inning, the score-card again levelled at 2-2 when Carlos Quentin walked and Adam Dunn posted a single run. Omar
Vizquel moved to third base at the top of the fifth inning.
The White Sox’ batters were unable to score any run in the last four innings. The Jays’ starter, Kyle Drabek gave away two runs on three hits in six inning pitches. He allowed five walks and struck out four batters on 121 pitches. However, the relievers
were outstanding and played a key role in the Jays’ victory as they pitched two innings collectively and went score-less.
No score was contributed from any batter during the sixth inning. Escobar doubled to centre-field and Jayson Nix scored a run to take the Jays 3-2 in the seventh inning. The score-board moved to 4-2 in the eighth inning when J.P. Arencibia posted one run
on the single-run shot of Jose Molina towards right-field. The ninth inning passed without any run.
The White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen was frustrated with the team’s performance and said, “Kind of a weird game. The same for both teams, the offense was very bad with people on base.”
Mark Buehrle threw seven innings with an ERA of 3.91 and permitted three runs on nine hits with three earned runs. He gave away two walks on 120 pitches.
