Yuppies and their affected speech?

Why do they talk with such weird fake accents? It's super annoying? They phrase statements as questions? Like this?

I assume you are talking about the new language cadence (for lack of a better way to describe it).  This is the habit of ending statements on a higher note that makes them sound a little like a question.  The reason for the shift, which I don't think is exclusive to yuppies, is because if has been shown in the lab that people respond in a more positive fashion to this cadence in speech.  Someone must have intuitively figured that out and started using it.  Others might have noticed and picked up on it too.
