Zenit St. Petersburg goalkeeper, Yuri Zhevnov, is currently sidelined after sustaining an injury in the Russian Cup tie against FC Khimki. He was replaced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vyacheslav-Malafeev-c36502 during the second half of the match.
Zhevnov has revealed that he is eyeing an early return to help the Bomzhi reclaim the top spot in the Russian Championship.
The Belarusian footballer revealed that he is trying hard to make a quick recovery with help from the club’s physicians. Zhevnov had been out of action after sustaining a similar injury against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 but the shot-stopper denied reports that the latest
injury was a recurrence of the previous one.
The gloves-man remained tightlipped over possible dates of his return, revealing that he has started different exercises to make a hasty return in time for the upcoming league encounters against Spartak Nalchik and CSKA Moscow.
Zhevnov believes that Zenit have proven their title credentials by defeating a very tough opponent, Anzhi Makhachkala, away from home. The shot-stopper heaped praise on the wild division by revealing that Anzhi will be competing for the title in the near
future.
The former FC Moscow player is unfazed with the seven-point lead attained by the league leaders, CSKA Moscow, and believes that Zenit can still manage to clinch the title under Luciano Spalletti’s leadership.
“I think we have achieved victory at the expense of the team work, Zenit loves the ball possession and in the first round matches our opponents had just managed to control the ball for the opening ten to fifteen minutes of the game.” Zhevnov was quoted as
saying.
Injuries have limited the first team appearances of the 30-year-old by three games in the current season, against Twente, Lokomotiv Moscow and FC Khimki, but Zhevnov believes he will come back stronger to reclaim the his starting berth in the goal.
