Anzhi Makhachkala’s latest addition, Yuri Zhirkov, has explained the reason for his departure from Chelsea FC and choosing Anzhi above other the Russian clubs. After a month of speculations and rumours, the 27-Year-old officially signed a four-year contract and moved to Dinamo Stadium for a reported fee of 15 million pounds.
“I did not like the prospect to sit on the bench more than to play, which was the case at Chelsea. Another such season and the football player Zhirkov could probably be forgotten. And at home in London, there were some problems”. The Russian Cup winner was
quoted as saying.
Reports in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 suggested that the West London club were holding out for more cash from the club president Suleyman Kerimov. However, the player was eventually released after recivieng roughly the same amount that they had paid to CSKA Moscow for his
services.
The UEFA Cup winning defender admitted that it was a tough decision to leave the English Premier League but insisted that his future was in limbo with the arrival of the new head coach at the bridge, Andre Villas Boas.
“The selection was actually very difficult. It was because of Chelsea - a top club, they play in some prestigious tournaments. “The FA Cup winner concluded.
Zhirkov is delighted after his switch from the West London club and assured the fans that they will see the best of him. The left back admitted that he made the decision in order to play regularly which was not the case during his time at Stamford Bridge.
“I am very glad to be here, in Makhachkala, and frankly I didn’t expect to be received so well. It’s like a dream and I hope to appear in the field already in the match against Spartak”. He concluded.
The Prolific stopper revealed that he is ready to help Anzhi claim a top spot on the league table, and eyes the upcoming game against Spartak Moscow as his debut game.
